"I had to take a gap year because of covid. I had to miss my graduation and leave my friends. I had to immediately pack up all my stuff in a week and go back to China. I was so anxious during that week that I didn’t know what to do. I went to HEAL twice during that time. HEAL’s peer counselor encouraged me to spend my last week in the States with my friends in meaningful ways. Looking back, I can’t imagine how that week would have been for me without talking to someone from HEAL.”

Our Issue Givers Say...

I have been diagnosed with mild depression. But my culture back home doesn’t really acknowledge mental health issues that much. And I was afraid to tell my friends. To be honest, I cried over the entire session during my first time with HEAL.

Issue Giver A

It's just so nice to have someone who understands your culture, who's gone through many things you have like studying in a foreign country and negotiating these differences... The counsellor gave me that feeling of having someone there with me.

Our Co-Presidents Say...

HEAL is a great cause that brings hope, warmth, and growth to everyone involved, including the peer supporters, volunteers, and our clients. I would like to see this love of giving and the positive lifestyle that we advocate reach more crowds in the coming years.

Co-President

I am always interested in health and wellness and hope to give back to the community by leading HEAL. The organization has been an important part of my life where I found people who share similar mindsets and made lifelong friends. In the next few years, I hope to expand HEAL among different schools and benefit Chinese international students who study abroad not only in the U.S. but globally with all HEAL members.
